Anthurium is one of the most beloved and elegant houseplants in the world. Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, it stands out for its beautiful shiny, heart-shaped spathes — commonly referred to as "flowers" — and its deep, lush green foliage. It is the perfect choice for adding a sophisticated, exotic, and modern splash of color to any home or professional setting.
📋 Cultivation and Care Sheet
☀️ Light and Location
It prefers very bright environments, but with indirect light. It avoids direct exposure to the sun's rays, which could burn the leaves. It also tolerates half-shaded positions, but good brightness stimulates continuous and lively flowering.
🌡️ Temperature
As it is a tropical plant, it loves the heat. The ideal temperature ranges between 18°C and 25°C. It fears cold snaps and drafts; make sure to keep it away from drafts and not expose it to temperatures below 15°C.
💧 Watering and Humidity
Keep the soil slightly moist, but never soggy. Water only when the first layer of soil is dry to the touch (approximately 1-2 times a week in summer, reducing frequencies in winter). Being a lover of environmental humidity, it likes to spray non-calcareous water on the leaves (avoiding directly wetting the flowers).
🌱 Soil and Repotting
It requires a soft, light and very draining soil, rich in peat and coconut fiber or perlite, to avoid water stagnation in the pot. Repotting is generally carried out every 2 years at the end of winter.
🧪 Fertilization
During spring and summer, administer a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants or green plants every 2-3 weeks, diluted in the watering water, to encourage the development of new buds.
✨ Curiosity and Meaning
❤️ The flower of love and hospitality
Thanks to the heart shape of its spathe, the Anthurium has always been considered a symbol of love, friendship and sincere affection. It is the ideal plant to give as a gift to wish welcome or happiness to those you love.
🌬️ Purify the air in your home
It is not only beautiful: Anthurium is one of the plants capable of purifying the air indoors, helping to remove harmful substances such as xylene, toluene and ammonia.
🎨 "Flowers" are not real flowers!
What we commonly call "flower" is actually a spathe, that is, a modified leaf that protects the real flower: the spadix, the central spike full of very small and dense flowers.
