Known for the fact that spiced powder that is commonly found on the market is extracted from its roots, turmeric is a plant of tropical origin suitable to be grown as a houseplant and to illuminate any corner of the house through its beautiful flowers.
Turmeric is a perennial herb plant, which reaches a maximum height of one meter and which is characterized by fleshy roots and oblong leaves. The really beautiful flowers are enclosed in an inflorescence made up of large bracts, light green in color. However, the rhizomatous root is the best known component of this plant, since it is from it that the precious spice used throughout the world is obtained.
TREATMENT: The turmeric plant prefers bright environments, but without direct sun exposure. The ideal temperature is around 20/25 ° C: in summer turmeric can also be placed outside, but in the colder months it is necessary to bring it back home, in order not to expose it to temperatures below 12 ° C. As for watering, in hot seasons it is advisable to water it regularly and in abundance, avoiding stagnation of water. Towards the beginning of autumn, however, when the leaves begin to turn yellow, the administration of water must be suspended, allowing the leaves to dry out. It will resume watering when the buds of the new leaves appear.
