Amarillis bulbs

Description:

Amaryllis is a bulbous plant native to Southern Africa, which therefore loves warm and dry environments and looks like an ideal bulb to be grown indoors. Although it does not produce fragrant flowers, it makes very different colors ranging from white, through the shades of salmon and pink, up to red. Also interesting are the color combinations such as that of red and white that blend harmoniously within the same flower, creating a suggestive effect. The plant can be between 40 and 60 cm tall and produces leaves of a beautiful, very intense green color.

Care:

The bulb should be planted in spring, at a depth of about 20 cm and spacing each bulb from one another by about 25 cm, so that they have a better chance of rooting. Amarillo does not get along well with humid soils: it does not need particular watering, except in the hottest period, when moistening the soil every day (without creating excessive and harmful stagnation of water), is highly recommended. This plant loves very bright places, but they have to be protected from direct sunlight. It is very suitable as a houseplant, since it fears the cold very much: the perfect temperature is about 21 °. The favorite soil of this plant is the perfectly drained and humus-rich one, in which it can sink its roots. A good idea, growing the plant in pot, is to create a very thin layer of clay or sand on the bottom to give greater draining power, without however immediately dispersing all the water during irrigation. Amarillo blooms in summer, producing a large quantity of large umbrella-shaped flowers, with varied and very bright colors.
